Between World War 2 & the Korean War, the US Army's field equipment was in a bit of a state of flux. These M51 field suspenders were a short lived experiment which could be found mashed together with an assortment of gear. Ultimately these were replaced by the more well known M56 field suspenders.
Made from durable cotton canvas, these have lasted 70 years and will probably do another 70 easy. Both the front & back straps are adjustable so you can position the shoulder pads correctly and adjust your belt height. Metal hooks loop through eyelets on your web belt (eg. M1936, M56) to secure them in place. The straps crossover on your back-something that was ultimately thrown out later in favour of the M56 H-style harness.
Definitely a set more worthy of a place in a Korean War collection rather than 'comforting' your back. Having said that, they will live longer than your spine, but they won't be for sale on here forever!
