Gambia adopted their current flag in 1965 not long after gaining their independence from the British Empire. The red colour evokes the sun as well as the savanna. The blue represents the Gambia river which is the nations key feature and its namesake. The green strip represents the nations dependence on agricultural goods. And finally the white strips represent unity and peace.
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
