These packs from the Austrian Army were part of an effort to modernize the Austrian army's KAZ03 equipment. The intent with all the original parts was to have a pack to wear over and integrate with your webbing. If a soldier came under contact while on the march, he could quickly hit the release dropping his pack and take the fight to the enemy. Although some of these parts are missing, these still make a fantastic stand alone pack for the avid hunter or hiker.

Made of hard wearing nylon and with an internal rubberized lining (somewhat perished in the latest batch), these will take all the knocks you can give it and keep its contents dry. Externally the pack is covered in cotton canvas loops that accept ALICE clip pouches if you need any added modules. The main compartment has a draw cord closure (which can help compress its contents down) as well as an extra sack sewn in around the opening. This sack can be sunken down into the main compartment and used as a divider for wet clothes or expanded upwards above the opening to increase the packs capacity. Another handy feature is the lid of the pack is fully removable. Both the top lid and bottom of the pack has a pair of pouches, handy for storing any quick access items such as a torch or bog roll when in a hurry! Behind the padded back area of the pack you can adjust the height/centre of gravity by raising or lowering the shoulder straps so you can gain maximum comfort according to your height and load.

All in all a great pack for hiking with plenty of options for added modularity while still maintaining a partially old school look.
