I was tired of the housewife made thin affairs I put up with on Ebay, but I had to buy them as I wanted real wool and you wont easily find it on the mass commercial market, or much less anywhere else these days without paying an arm and a leg. But even this wont assure you form, function and performance over fashion. With me pure wool is only the first hurdle, there are others: Weave, thickness of materials (for the job), build quality then function- this beanie delivers. The last pure merino wool beanie I had, had a cuff that was too long. This made the sides of my head too hot and the top cold. Not the case with this beanie, the cuff is shorter and the weave and thickness are good. I like that- so material is thick, while not being overdone- I would say it is as thick as the Czech gloves, but the weave is more sparse (stretch knit), while still being tight knit - I cannot see holes in the material like I could with the Ebay one and ones from the past. Mainly to be worn at night and on crisp mornings, but I chose green for versatility. There is a removable US Department of Defense tag attached clearly confirming the cap is 100% wool and made to genuine military specifications. Fit is good for a standard sized head, but one size fits most in this case I think, hence the stretch knit and you have a choice of classic colours.
