Description
Originally designed in 1944 to offer eye protection from sun, wind and dust. These goggles have served US troops for decades afterwards and have gone through a few small design tweaks. These particular sets has the foam backing and originate from the 1974 design (year of manufacture can date right up to 2000s).
These versions have the non ''ballistic'' lenses - the lenses are thinner but still did their job of protecting eyes from sun, wind and dust.
As cool as these are, there are a few quality issues to address.
As these are the foam backed models, the coating to this foam has degraded and is now flaking off. For this purpose, do not intend to wear these goggles (the flakes might go in the eyes, no good) - these are sold as display items only. As used surplus goggles, we do not recommend wearing these for protection anyway. So just don't wear them, ok? Display only.
The lenses are a bit scuffed or scratched. One could still see through the lenses, but they are not in the best condition (but not as bad as Grade 2 lenses).
The goggles are secured using an olive green adjustable headband.
So even with these characteristics and being collectors items (again, don't wear these), they are pretty rowdy and a neat piece of history. Put some on your helmet display!
